The University of Alicante launches First Innovative Ideas Competition for its students

The Vice President for Research, Development & Innovation, Manuel Palomar, the Vice President for Students, José Vicente Cabezuelo and the Chairwoman of the Student's Representative Council, Elena Garrigós, have presented this morning the 1st Competition on Innovative Ideas for the University of Alicante's students.
This new initiative aims at encouraging the creativity of the university community and particularly at engaging students as a fundamental pillar of the UA. This has been assured by Manuel Palomar in his speech, who said that "the competition aims at promoting the creative and innovative spirit of our students and at raising awareness of their potential talent". Meanwhile, José Vicente Cabezuelo, who wanted to highlight that "at the UA, we deal not only with a broad academic training but we encourage entrepreneurship among our students". The Chairwoman of the UA Students' Representative Council, Elena Garrigós, has stated that "this is a very interesting initiative because the students have many good ideas but sometimes they are short on resources. This competition provides an opportunity to present their ideas. "
Works can be submitted by University of Alicante's students individually or in groups from now until 2nd March, at 12 noon (Information and competitions rules at http://web.ua.es/es/vr-investi/
Awards and criteria
The Competition on Innovative Ideas will award two prizes (First Prize, €1,000, second prize €500 euros) in the single category of Innovative Idea. In addition, students who are selected as finalists will receive an accredited diploma, a full color A2 poster size of their work, which will form part of an exhibition at the Lecture Building II from 5th to 9th March 2012 and an invitation to a lunch in the Social Club II, sponsored by the restaurant "Arrayan".
The jury will choose, among the works submitted, 20 finalists, based on the following criteria:
- Innovation and quality of the proposals.
- Effective communication and creativity of the work submitted.
- Ability to arise suggestions to convey an original message.
- Proper interpretation of the requirements stated in the announcement.
- The important thing is the idea not so much the design of the presentation.
Students wishing to participate must submit an innovative idea to the following email address concursoidea@ua.es
The selection of finalists will be made by a jury and students may participate in the vote (5th to 8th March) to elect the best Innovative Idea among the finalist works. Participants in the vote will enter a draw to win an iPhone 4S, sponsored by Telefonica, which will take place on 9th March.
