This morning the University of Alicante's Electoral Board has proclaimed as the new University President, definitively, Professor in Languages and Systems, Manuel Palomar Sanz.
The next step is the publication of the decree of appointment by the Regional Minister. Once published, the date of the entry upon office as the University of Alicante's President will be set.
Manuel Palomar, (Ontinyent, 1964). Professor in Computer Languages and Systems at the UA. Doctor and graduate in Computer Science from the University of Valencia, he has worked as a UA lecturer since 1991 and as the director of the Department of Computer Software and Systems from 2000 to 2004. He was also the Secretary of the Department of Computing Technology and Data Processing between 1994 and 1995.
From 2005 until 19th March 2012, has held the post of Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation.
Palomar chaired the Valencian Universities Network for the promotion of R&D between 2007 and 2009, was a member of the board of the Confederation of National Associations of Spain (COSCE) since 2004 and president of the Spanish Society for the Prosecution Natural Language between 1996 and 2006.
His academic activity is focussed on the analysis, design, management and operation of databases and information systems. As a researcher, Manuel Palomar has centred his activity on human language technologies, linguistic engineering, search and information retrieval, automatic production of summaries and intelligent analysis of information.
He has authored numerous scientific articles published in national and international journals.
