The CEM is aimed at achieving effective equality between women and men, and is open to the entire university community (teaching and research staff, and student administration and services) as well as of individuals, groups and social groups. The creation of a Centre for Women's Studies (CEM) with multidisciplinary nature, part of the University of Alicante, falls in line with those recently established in other universities, as an institutional response to the need for inclusion in the university setting a space for reflection and action on gender, from an open, critical and in line with social needs and promoting gender equality, believing that the development of women's rights through the development rights society as a whole.
The Women's Studies Centre pursues the achievement of the effective equality of women and men, and is open to the participation of all the University's community (teachers, researchers, staff and students), as well as of the people, groups and social communities.
The creation of a women's studies centre with a multidisciplinary character, dependent of the Universidad de Alicante, follows the line of other centres already created in other Universities, as an institutional answer to the need of inclusion in the university's sphere, of a space of reflection and performance on gender, from a critical, open perspective, in accordance with the social needs of promotion and equality between the sexes, in the conviction that the development of women's rights lies in the development of the rights of society as a whole..
Our centre is member of ATGENDER (The European Association for Gender Reasearch, Education and Documentation) (former AOIFE), of ATHENA (the official network of the European Commission of the Socrates Program), of WISE (Women's International Studies Europe).
The Centro de Estudios sobre la Mujer wants to take part in the achievement of the following objectives:
Integration in the docencia of the investigation.
Interdisciplinary training of the people that integrate the Centre.
Coordination of proposals for courses about gender.
Participation and collaboration with national and foreign Centres and Institutes.
Boosting of new worklines and favour the collaboration and training of research teams in gender studies.
Favouring of actions that tend to no discrimination.
Establishment scientific cooperation with national and international University Institutes as well as similar entities and centres.
Establishment of agreements and maintenance of relations with the different academic and non academic institutions and public and private entities.
Spreading of the centre's activities and studies: publications, congresses, lectures, etc.
Creation of a specialised bibliographic and documentary archive.
