HISTRAD’s main goal is to carry out research into a variety of topics related to translation history in the Spanish speaking world. It includes both directions: from Spanish and into Spanish. We put special emphasis on the relevance of the history of translation insofar as it helps to guide the professional work, as well as it enhances the interpretation of international relations. In order to achieve this goal we will focus on:
The analysis and documentation of received and exported translation works.
The influence and significance in the intercultural and interlinguistic exchange.
We shall highlight the imprint of these translations on Spanish and Latin American cultural history throughout the centuries. This web page is meant to be a user-friendly virtual platform that provides the visitor with the opportunity to access the works produced by our research team. The different works are arranged according to the country of origin and the language pair involved.
This approach is intended to underline the relevance of the translator, in his dual role as literary and cultural agent, often underestimated by scholars and society as a whole in favor of the binomial “author-work”.
The research group HISTRAD, made up by Spanish and Latin-American scholars coming from both sides of the Atlantic, initiated its activity in 2006.
Scholars whose interests lie within the research scope of translation history and wish to submit contributions are welcome.
