Technological Innovation-Education
The wireless network has been operational in its new version during the year 2007-2008. 10 199 certificates have been issued and the number of members who have used our network has been in 8155.
The University wireless network is attached to the project EDUROAM. Members of the universities that belong to this project can make use in their displacement of other campus wireless networks using the same procedure as in their home university.
During this course are about 25 access points additional wireless to cover areas with poor coverage or new needs. It has a built additional wireless operator to increase fault tolerance of the network.
On the other hand in the first term were replaced network equipment that make up the main and secondary backbone network. This change will have replaced obsolete equipment with higher capacity for routing and a main backbone to 10 Gbps.
has been enabled a special network to serve users of the Social Sciences Building that have been transferred to the Residence.
We performed a study to implement multicast in the network and enable the use of local support network for TV broadcasts and other emissions of a technical nature.
Inside the gradual renovation project of the network routers have been replaced in July by a more advanced model with the following specifications: Matrix N1 Chassis with dual power supply module Platinum DFE 24-Port 10/100/1000 Base TX RJ-45 Expansion Module NEM 6-port SFP 1000 Base-X mini-GBIC connector. Platinum DFE module includes 256 MB DRAM, advanced routing license Matrix N (Enterasys Operating System Advanced) for LS-NAT support, PIM, OSPF and extended ACLs.

was held a comprehensive reorganization of the electrical system that was in a sorry state. They have installed two separate circuits fed from two different processing points and with a UPS and a generator set independently for each circuit. Server for Virtual Classroom. For the virtual classroom project takes on a DELL server with the following specifications: DELL PE2950 2 x Quad-Core Xeon E5310 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, 1066FSB, two 300 GB SAS drives (10,000 rpm), redundant power supplies. Report Webometric July 2008
On the 24th of July has been released in six-monthly report Webometric.
The "World Universities Ranking on the Web" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, part of the CSIC, the largest national research center in Spain.
Cybermetrics Lab is devoted to the quantitative analysis of the Internet and the contents of the Web, especially those related to the process of generating and scholarly communication of scientific knowledge. This is a new emerging discipline that has been called Cybermetrics, also known as webometrics.
Web data are very useful for classifying universities because they are based on number of visits or page design but also take into account the quality and impact of universities.
The ranking is constructed from four quantitative indicators derived from the major search engines:
- Size: Number of pages recovered from four engines Search: Google, Yahoo, Live Search and Exalead.
- Visibility: The total number of unique external links received by a site that can be consistently obtained from Yahoo Search, Live Search and Exalead.
- rich Files: The following file formats were selected after considering their relevance to academic and publication activities, and taking into account the volume of use: Adobe Acrobat, Adobe PostScript, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. These data are extracted through Google, Yahoo Search, Live Search and Exalead.
- Academic: Google Scholar provides the number of articles and citations for each academic domain. The results obtained from the database of Google Scholar includes articles, reports and other academic papers.
According to their website: "If the web performance of an institution is below expectations according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web policy, promoting substantial increases in the volume and quality of their electronic publications. "
The University of Alicante obtained an excellent position in the ranking. In the national ranking AU was ranked number 10 of 74 Spanish universities evaluated.

The aim of this website is to provide a popularity rating of universities around the world in terms of its website to help students select a university in a foreign country.

Space Management. We have developed a new application that includes procedures to perform tasks as batch, for example, allocation of classrooms to all teaching departments in the degree of a particular setting. Have also been developed processes for data synchronization space between the Geographic Information System (following) and academic management systems (UXXI-AC).
Content Management System. For two years it has been developing a content manager to update Publiweb, a tool that for nine years we have used to post on the website of the AU.
In the second quarter of 2008 went to work to a group people, not previously published, and the results so far have been very satisfactory. At the end of the year will begin advertising tool available to make a seamless transition of users published with the previous environment.

in TPV Virtual Campus. POS stands for Point of Sale Terminal (in English "POS" means or means-"Point Of Sale"). It refers to programs and technologies that help in the tasks of managing a retail business.

-EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION
The calls for support for technological innovation and educational at the UA, with many variations, were endowed with a total of 310,000 â? ¬. Note the first, direct payments for the use of Virtual Campus as a call for funding by objectives. This is the third course offered this announcement and there has been an increase in participating subjects, which have exceeded a thousand. We have continued to cut networking and educational technology in two areas. First, the free software, whose basic objective is the promotion of the use of free software in the teaching of subjects of official qualifications first and second cycle. And secondly, technological innovation networks, education, whose objective is focused on designing and developing multimedia materials for teaching, with the support of ITE Area Task Force. Additionally, called three other modalities, for technological innovation projects, education, the acquisition of software for the practical teaching of subjects and the holding of meetings and educational technology innovation, the latter aimed at the centers of the University of Alicante.
In this academic year has been developed for the first time the call of the pilot project for the delivery of courses in blended mode. The implementation of a blended model assumes that part of the teaching-learning process takes place in the classroom, according to the traditional classroom model, while another part is based on on-line education, e-learning or distance learning, allowing students to have support materials and resources available online for continued consultation at any time and channel to communicate with peers and teachers.
From October 2007 to May 2008 was held the fifth edition of the course " Tune: Free software and digital technology for students at the University of Alicante "in which changes were made in the contents and has been taught in blended mode. The traditional objective, which was open to students in the use of technology resources offered by the University of Alicante, have added the following objectives: to provide an overview of the possibilities of free software, open to students in the methodology e-learning, providing an overview of the possibilities of the OpenOffice productivity suite and train students to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations using OpenOffice Writer, Calc and Impress. The course has had a blog as a communication tool with students.


In order to present publicly the results of the calls for aid from earlier periods, was held on February 20, 2008 the "V-Day Educational Technological Innovation at the University of Alicante. The meeting presented the results of projects funded in previous calls and made public the main priorities for 2008.
has contributed to the continuous improvement of the Virtual Campus, both with the addition of new tools such as the evolution and development of some existing ones. Among the new features include the new section of the student activity statistics, the tool to surveys by the teachers and the secretariats of the Centre, the incorporation of bill payment by credit card, the functionality of query data POI, the tool that allows teachers to send messages to their students and the Virtual Classroom Computing. In the field of primary healthcare services to users of Virtual Campus 5200 there have been interventions help and advice.
The service has been maintained, with staff fellow at the ITE, to support teachers in the following issues: teachers use the Virtual Campus, the realization of digital materials for teaching purposes and the resolution of questions about the use of different digital technologies focused on teaching practice. Note that it has acquired a campus license program Course Genie (Create) for the development of educational content.
In connection with giving advice and assistance to users has developed a video-tutorial directed to teachers to facilitate management of various technological resources in the classroom. This tutorial complements those developed in previous years on the Virtual Campus profiles of faculty and students.
