Agenda 21 is a program of the United Nations (UN) to promote sustainable development understood as improving the quality of life of the community, in balance with the natural capital and local economic capabilities (economic development, social equity and environmental sustainability).
It is a detailed plan of actions that allows analysis of the current situation and prepare proposals for improvements to the current social, economic and environmental problems at the local level, in order to solve them and forecast for the future (21st century). It is these local problems to end up improving the whole of the planet.
Agenda 21 represents the commitment of a community of stimulating way structured and planned the development of measures to support respect for the environment with social and economic development.
This year, 2007, the University of Alicante acquires its particular commitment to sustainable development through the adoption of the programme of Agenda 21 that will be running over the next 12 months, with the goal of minimizing the impact of the daily activity of our campus.
