Agency for gender equality and the empowerment of women, resulting from the merger of the four entities responsible for gender issues: UNIFEM, DAW, OSAGI and INSTRAW. this new entity began operating from 1 January 2011, under the Executive direction of Ms. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile.

The European Institute for gender equality was created December 20, 2006; its duties consist of help the European institutions and States members to promote equality of gender in all Community policies and resulting national policies, and to combat discrimination on grounds of sex. Another task of the Institute will be sensitizing the citizens of the European Union on this subject.
