The Digital Accessibility Unit, which depends on the Vice-Rector’s Office for Digital Transformation of the University of Alicante, has the objective of promoting, raising awareness and training in digital accessibility and accessible technologies.
Our goal is to break down digital barriers , design guidelines for the creation of accessible digital contents, advise and train the university community about the use of accessible technologies and detect opportunities for entrepreneurship through research about accessibility, as well as creating communication channels for its dissemination.
On 19 September 2018, Royal Decree 1112/2018 of 7 September was published in the Official Journal of the Government of Spain (BOE). The goal was to guarantee accessibility requirements from mobile devices to websites and applications of public institutions and others, in order to ensure users access equality and non-discrimination, particularly people with disabilities and the elderly
For this reason, any public digital document via the Internet, which has been published, updated or modified since the entry into force of RD 1112/2018, must be accessible. Digital documents include PDF, Word or PowerPoint formats, application forms, virtual environments, services, procedures, information supply; as well as all teaching documents published in UACloud.
In compliance with article 16 of RD 1112/2018, the University of Alicante appoints us as the office responsible for accessibility with the following mission statement:
- To guarantee adequate management and processing of the enquiries, suggestions, notifications, complaints and requests received in relation to accessible information.
- To deal with and give appropriate answer to complaints made by users due to lack of accessibility to the University's websites and mobile applications.
To coordinate periodical reviews of accessibility.
- To coordinate and encourage activities oriented to promote, raise awareness and training on accessibility.
- To provide annual reports to the Spanish University Presidents Council (CRUE).
