University of Alicante's lecturers Angeles Sirvent and Juan José Bayona ordered knights of the Order of Academic Palms

University of Alicante's lecturers Angeles Sirvent -from the Department of Modern Languages- and Juan José Bayona -from the Department of Department of Tax Law & Economics- have been appointed as knighths of the Order of Academic Palms, awarded by the Ministry of France for Education and Research in recognition of their commitment to the dissemination of French culture from the university.
The awarding ceremony of the insignia will take place tomorrow Friday, 17 December, at 6.30 pm, at the 'Miguel de Unamuno Hall of the Alicante French Lycee.
Official Order of Academic Palms
The Official Order of Academic Palms was instituted in 1808 by Napoleon, in order to honor with merit medals to members of the French university. Later, in 1866, the Palms began to surrender to those working in education. In 1955, President René Coty, instituted three degrees within the Order: Knight, Officer and Commander.
Alicante University maintains numerous cooperation agreements with different institutions in France and in particular with the French Lycee in Alicante, directed by Laure Mouden. Professors Carlos Barciela, Emilio La Parra, Armando Albert and the University President, Ignacio Jiménez Raneda, were also honored with this award in previous years.
