The spin-off Glen Biotech, arising from the University of Alicante's Pathology Group, and first company at the Alicante Science Park, has been awarded the Prize for 'Best Business Project', a training programme of bioenterpreneurs (Biocampus) launched by Genome Spain.

Glen Biotech, sponsored by the research group directed by Luis Vicente López Llorca, received the first prize for best business project, worth €30,000, on 16 December, in Madrid, during the 'Project Presentation Forum of and Biotechnology Companies'.

Glen Biotech, presented by Berenice Guerrier, is focused on developing innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental problems of the agricultural sector and connected to landscape. Phoemyc is its first product, and is intended to control the red palm weevil plague.

For Berenice, this award is one of the most important recognitions that a newly established biotechnology company can get nationwide, “the fact of being trained and selected along with six other projects, it is a privilege for us, we have competed with highly relevant projects on human health, such as solutions for cancer and Alzheimer's, however, they have selected our project, that has to do with plant health and it is right now a problem spread within a very limited area nationwide, but at a European and international level is a major problem”.

Guerrier, has considered ”the financial aid for our company very important but it is also the recognition of Genome Spain”.

The Project Presentation Forum and Biotechnology Companies, is an initiative of the Genome Spain Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Network of Business Angels (ESBAN) and it is aimed at investors who want to know the business opportunities offered by an innovative and future sector such as biotechnology.
