The University of Alicante leads the European Commision's Edulink II Cooperation Programme in higher education

The University of Alicante leads the Edulink II Programme, a project from the European Commission that funds university cooperation projects between Europe and the ACP countries (Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific States). The UA presented six proposals to this programme and all of them were selected for funding with and amount of € 2,818,789.20.
The six selected projects started formally last October but the official launch will take place on the campus of the University of Alicante on 18th and 19th November and will bring together 50 representatives from 36 higher education institutions in Sweden, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Portugal, Seychelles, Madagascar, Comoros, Tanzania, Mozambique, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroun, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The opening of the meeting will be done by Joaquín Marhuenda, President of Institutional Projects of the University of Alicante.
The thematic areas of the projects coordinated by the UA cover a wide range of disciplines, among which stand out SUCCEED NETWORK, that will develop a network of Higher Education Institutions in Eastern Africa for the Development of Sustainable Campus; IP4Growth, that will contribute to the agricultural and socio-economic development of the Francophone countries of Western Africa through the improvement of skills of Higher Education Institutions in the areas of intellectual property, especially in promoting local certificates of origin; CAP4INNO, that will be developed in the Caribbean region and will promote the transfer of knowledge of energy efficiency in Higher Education Institutions; CAPACITY4FOOD, that will be developed in Anglophone Western African countries and will promote the creation of capacity buildings in integrated management of land’s fertility, in order to promote food security in the region; EPIC, that will take place in countries of the Pacific region (Fiji and Papua Guinea) and will promote regional cooperation in renewable energy by the creation of a joint master on this issue; and FISHERMAN, that will be held in the South-West Indian Ocean region and will give support to universities to prepare the next generation of qualified professionals for sustainable management of fisheries.
The Edulink Programme
Edulink is a cooperation project in higher education between the ACP countries (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific regions) and the European Union countries that are joining the 9th European Development Fund (EDF). Its main objective is to achieve an institutional strengthening and regional integration among ACP countries through stable networks. EDULINK promotes a system of quality in higher education, effective and appropriate to meet the needs of the labor market and consistent with the priorities of the socio-economic development of ACP countries.
