The I European Short Film Award of Alicante Film Festival is born with the collaboration of UA's Language Centre
The award will be granted to the best European short film and strengthen the festival's international scope
Alicante, 1 April 2014
Mónica Martí, CEO of the University of Alicante’s Language Centre, and Vicente Seva, the director of the Alicante International Film Festival, have signed a collaboration agreement to screen the films competing in the first edition of the “European Short Film Award” in the Campus of San Vicente. The best European short film nominees will be screened in the original version with subtitles, therefore serving as a learning tool for language students at the University of Alicante. This will be the Language Centre’s contribution to the spreading of the festival, which is now aiming at Europe for the first time.
The films will be screened on 26 May in the Colegio Mayor of the UA, and among them there will be 220 short films from Hungary, Portugal, Sweden, Poland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Estonia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain.
The agreement also includes free tickets to the film screenings for language and international students from the Language Centre, subject to seat availability.
The Alicante Film Festival is held annually and includes a wide range of additional activities such as concerts, exhibitions, cultural contests, conferences, etc. This year’s objective is to bring European cinema closer to young people through a series of initiatives, including a European animated short film cycle in schools. The Festival organisers have requested funds from European Union Programme “Creative Europe”, focused on culture and artistic creation, and from the Ministry of Culture.
The Alicante Film Festival is sponsored by the City Council of Alicante, the Provincial Government, the Alicante water management services and other supporting entities.
