The UA schedules 14 new cultural shows for May and June as a firm commitment to home-grown productions
ACUA is our own production trademark, four theatre releases produced by the UA Drama Club and its Permanent University, the contemporary dance show "Huellas", a result of the UA Dance Club, concerts by the University Chorus and Philharmonic (OFUA) and the exhibition "Mario Benedetti at the University of Alicante", also produced by the UA, and a comprehensive programme of activities dedicated to Spain-Japan dual year.

The Vice President for Culture, Sports and Language Policies of the UA, Carles Cortés, has presented this morning the new cultural programme ACUA for the months of May and June 2014. The programme includes fourteen music, dance shows, theatre performances and dramatic readings, as well as exhibitions and a programme of activities around the Spain-Japan dual year.
The schedule for these months is marked by a clear commitment to its own production in theatre, dance and exhibitions to which other outsourcing activities have been added to complete the offer. Entrance to eleven of the fourteen activities is free with invitation, as an effort to bring culture closer to the university community and society, as the Vice President, Carles Cortés, states.
ACUA starts on May 6 with Xavi Castillo and Pot de Plom Theatre that will performed " El Mono”, at the UA Museum at 7 pm with tickets at 10 euros. The theatre section brings three new premieres performed by the UA Theatre Club: "Microteatro de andar por casa" directed by Carbonell Pascual, will be the first release on May 8 at 7 pm in the MUA, followed by "Las Asambleístas de Aristófanes" with the direction and dramaturgy of Ricardo Arqueros, a work which will be released on 20 May and will premiere outdoor, at the on-campus amphitheatre, next to the lecture building II, at 8.30 pm. The third release of the Drama Club will take place on 30 May 30 at 7.30 pm at the Hall of Residence with the work "Repoker de autores". The theatre club of the Permanent University will complete the theatrical releases of the UA productions with "La memoria de los objetos" on 12 June, in the Auditorium at 8 pm, with the direction and dramaturgy of Pascual Carbonell.
The offer also includes the theatre show "Maravilloso", a version of Beautifull thing by Jonathan Harvey, which will be performed at the Auditorium on 15 May at 12 noon, by the cultural association + Arte under the direction of Noah Vicente. The theatre shows end with the performance of the theatre company Seneca, which will stage "“Edipo, de Séneca" on 22 May, also in the Auditorium at 8 pm.
Domnican writer Radulescu will offer a conference with dramatic reading of her work "las Vírgenes de Sevilla", at Mario Benedetti Studies Centre (12 May, at 12 noon).
Dance will be the star on 14 May, at the Auditorium (8 pm) with "Huellas", a contemporary dance show directed and choreographed by Inma Manresa, staged by students of the UA Dance Club; and the UA Museum will host "“Coreografía Redibujada” on 23 May, at 9 pm, a performance by Francisco Leiva. José Espadero Professional Dance Conservatory completes the offer of dance performances on 28 and 29 May in the Auditorium, with professional and soloist exhibitions (8 pm).
The music section is also marked by its own production with an extraordinary guitar concert series that will be held in the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium (ADDA) on 4 May, at 8 pm, by guitarist Alfredo Sánchez Oviedo, awarded with "Summa Cum Laude" in 2013 edition of the Master's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Alicante, along with the UA Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Mihnea Ignat. Both guitarist and OFUA will perform workd by Domeniconi and Tchaikovsky, and the Concierto de Aranjuez by composer Rodrigo.
The UA Choir, directed by Ramón Jover, will also give a concert at the Faculty of Education on 21 May at 8 pm.
The exhibition section includes six openings: “Mario Benedetti en la Universidad de Alicante (1990-2004): Defensa de una alegría”, on 15 May in Aifos Hall, "Istagram" and "Sebastiao Salgado-Terra” at Trànsit Hall on 3 and 5 May, respectively, and “Elogi de la brisa. Llorenç Pizà”, “Premios de Edificación Saludable” and “Caligrafía japonesa”, at the UA Museum during May and June, with opening dates to be specified. The exhibition “caligrafía japonesa” is part of the activity programme around the Spain-Japan dual year that the UA Museum is preparing in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Spain and the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona. The programme will include a sample of Japanese cinema and literature (Main Library), a concert by Japanese guitarist Yoshimi Otani (11 June), a workshop on calligraphy, another one on manga and the roundtable: "La recepción de la cultura japonesa en la actualidad".
