Profesor Javier García and former student Enrique Sentana, 2014 Jaime I Awards

Alicante, 3 June 2014

Professor Javier García, from Department of Inorganic Chemistry and director of the Laboratory for Molecular Nanotechnology at the University of Alicante will be awarded the Jaime I Award in New Technologies. The decision has been made public after the deliberations of the jury made up of 80 people, including 19 Nobel Laureates. Granted by Fundación Premios Rey Jaime I (King Jaime I Awards Foundation), chaired by Professor Santiago Grisolia, the awards meet this year the 26th anniversary from its creation with the aim of bringing together scientific and business entities for the promotion of research and scientific development in Spain.

Founder of startup Rive Technology, along with American Andrew Dougherty, Javier García is also vice president of the World Economic Forum Council on Emerging Technologies. He is considered one of the most internationally renowned researchers from Alicante, mainly in the field of nanotechnology applied to hydrocarbons, with the revolutionary aim of transforming oil refining. Not surprisingly, his research has been highlighted several times by centres like MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most prestigious in the world for the promotion of technology transfer and entrepreneurship.
