The University of Alicante will award a Doctor Honoris Causa degree to stringed instruments artisan José Luis Romanillos
Alicante, 27 June 2014
The University of Alicante will award a Doctor Honoris Causa degree to guitar maker and stringed instruments artisan Jose Luis Romanillos. Despite the many awards he holds, this will be the first time an academic institution recognises his outstanding place in the recent history of the classical guitar, of whose organology is a living part.
Given the social projection of this public figure and his connection with the Alicante project as a city of guitar tradition, and with the second edition of the Master’s Programme in Classical Guitar Performance organised by the University of Alicante, this is the first time a honoris causa doctor’s degree ceremony has been held outside the academic campus, as the event will take place on Monday, 30 June, in the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium.
The academic procession will form up at 6 pm and the event will start at 7 pm.
The sponsor is Professor in Geography and honorary president of the University of Alicante, Antonio Gil Olcina. Renowned guitar artists as David Rusell, Ignacio Rodes, Carles Trepat y Antigoni Goni will be playing performing during the ceremony.
A good number of personalities from the world of culture, music and Alicante society have already confirmed their attendance at the event.
