The University of Alicante mourns the loss of honorary doctor Antoni Maria Badia i Margarit

 

Alicante, 17 November 2014

Member of the Catalan Studies Institute, assigned to the Royal Academy of Letter in Barcelona, and honorary member of the Royal Spanish Academy, Antoni Maria Badia i Margarit died at age 94 in Barcelona yesterday.

Inventor of the modernisation of Catalan Studies, he devoted much of his career to the study of the grammar and history of the language. Amongst many other awards, including the honorary awards of the Jaume I Foundation and of the Catalan Literature or Creu de Sant Jordi, Badia i Margarit was appointed as a honoris causa doctor by the University  of Alicante in November 2002. 

The funeral will take place on Monday, 17 November, at the Church del Pi in Barcelona at 3pm.

The President of the University of Alicante and its management team deeply regret such an irreparable loss and share the sorrow of his family.
