After the official inauguration of the academic year 2014/2015, the University of Alicante welcomes 6,000 new students with a comprehensive programme with information, cultural activities, sports demonstrations and free workshops.
From 23 to 26 September, students will get informed and be guided on the services they can find at the University as well as a wide range of possibilities of comprehensive development inside and outside their classes at the campus of San Vicente Raspeig. The opening speech of the Welcome Week at the UA will be held on Tuesday, 23 September, at 12 noon in the basement of the Main Library by UA President, Manuel Palomar, and Vice President for Students, Nuria Grané.
Student of Law and Business Administration (DADE), Nuria García Brea, will be awarded a Tablet and a credential diploma as the winner of the competition “A slogan for the UA” with her proposal "Apuesta por tí” (bet for you).
The UA Welcome Week will have a comprehensive programme with information and guidance to students through 22 booths, which will be open from 10 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm, where students can get information on the services and units of the academic institution as the Library, the Healthy University, Internationalisation, Language Centre, Student Information and Support, Employability, Culture, Sports and Language Policy, Student Council, and the Publishing Service and “Compás” book shop that will make undergraduate textbooks available for students and teachers . Other entities serving the University are some banking offices from Banco Sabadell, Banco Santander, Caja Rural, Cajamar, as well as the Red Cross - Transfusion Center, University Optics, Tram - Metropolitan, Renfe, Subus Vectalia, Villa Universitaria, Europahouse university residence, Rector 3 undergraduate courses, Aguas de Alicante, Centro 14 - Youth Council of Alicante and Alicante Provincial Council.
Students will learn how to actively participate in university life through associations, student representation or being member of cultural groups such as the Philharmonic Orchestra, Theatre, University Choir, UA sports teams, and get information and guidance on issues such as mobility (national and international), curricular and extracurricular internships, job placement and language learning, among other things.
Also, the Observatory for Labour Integration and the Employment Office at the University of Alicante have designed several free workshops to prepare students to face their future career and job search.
Concert - (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CONCERT HAS BEEN REESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, 2 OCTOBER DUE TO RAIN)
To start with lively rhythms, the open-air auditorium at lecture building II will host the traditional Welcome Concert on Thursday 25 September at 8.30, starring Mr. Kilombo, accompanied by EW Records as openers and Takones Rumberos Social Club set DJ´s, who will close the event. Admission is free by invitation and can be collected at the UA Museum Cultural Information Point- MIC.
Special TRAM and Bus Services
TRAM special services to and from Alicante will be made available for the university community to attend the Welcome Concert.
TRAM services will be extended to the lines from Luceros to El Campello (via Muchavista beach) and to San Juan Beach.
SUBUS Group will provide two buses at 10.45 pm at the on-campus bus stop opposite the Lecture Building II (Aulario II) and in front the Hall of Residence, which will be operating this circular route until nobody is left on Campus: Universidad (Aulario II) - Plaza de Toros - Luceros - Avda. Estación (frente Renfe) - Universidad (Aulario II). The ticket price is €1.50 and no bus passes will be accepted since it is a special bus service.
This comprehensive programme has been complemented by other activities of all kinds, in morning and evening sessions, which includes a screening of "Searching for Sugar Man" on Tuesday, 23 September at 8.30 in the outdoor auditorium at lecture building II; the staging of "Microteatro de andar por casa" on Wednesday, 24 September, 10 am to 2 pm and from 16 to 19 hours in different areas of the campus; and performances by the Choir of the AU at the entrance of the Main Library from 11:30 to 12:30 to 12 and 13 hours, the same Thursday 25 September..
Family Welcome Event
Finally, on Friday 26 September, at 6 pm at the UA Auditorium, the Family Welcome Event will be held for families to get to know the on-campus services and facilities available for new students during the coming years.
