Cultural month at UA Polytechnic School starts on Monday
Four intense weeks make up the various activities, such as the traditional competition on Robotics involving teachers and students

The University of Alicante’s Polytechnic School will start its cultural programme on Monday, 2 February with Juan Carlos Garcia, lecturer in Chemical Engineering, who will give a talk on science and basic technology for the preparation of bakers and pastry. It will be at 11 am at the Polytechnic School Auditorium. Just before this event, at 10:30 am, Vice President of Culture, Sports and Language Policies, Carles Cortés, along with Polytechnic School Director Andrés Montoyo and Deputy Director for Communication Joshua Nescolarde Selva, will open this month’s cultural agenda. A comprehensive programme of cultural, scientific and dissemination activities will be presented in different settings with the participation of many of the School’s teachers and students.
This year’s cultural month main topic is related to the International Year of Light and Light-based technologies, already proclaimed by the UN for this year 2015. Many activities will revolve around this, such as some information sessions on efficient lighting in Civil Engineering, where the need to reduce its consumption and electricity bill in public administrations will be set out by professionals involved in administrations and private companies. The sessions will end up with several case studies on public lighting, being held on Wednesday, 4 and Thursday 5 Feb, from 10 am to 2.30 pm at the auditorium of the university hall of residence. In parallel, the same 4 Feb, a show on ABP games made by last year’s graduates and organised by lecturers Carlos Villagra and Fidel Aznar Gregori, will be held in the Auditorium I at 11 am.
Given the growing need for alternatives to fossil fuels, energy production from microalgae and using the sun for their development, a talk on biomass and the Sun for energy use will be addressed by lecturer Angela Garcia. It will be held at 11.30 am, on Wednesday, 4 February. in the Polytechnic School IV Auditorium. Open to participation, a competition on Robotics Competition, in its fifth edition, will be held on Thursday, 5 February, at the multimedia hall of the University Administration and Council Building, at 9:00 am, with three participation modalities. Also construction companies in the sector and prestigious professional will intervene in the micro lecturers on building construction taking place on Friday, 6 Feb, with the participation of Pascual Urbán.
The second week, from 9 to 13, the Polytechnic School will be devoted to telecommunications; (OSITTOS Seminar scheduled for 13 Feb) and Polytechnic School Radio Day. On the 10th, the II Instant Banking Hack Day will hold a previous session. Application for this innovation marathon are invited up to 9 February where they are looking for the generation of ideas to revolutionise digital banking and will be held on 21 and 22 feb at the new UA venue in Alicante.
The third week, on Tuesday, 17 Feb, will be the turn of L-EARN, with the presentation of its online platform to learn languages, followed by some lectures on architecture and light, and a workshop on ephemeral architecture and cities on Friday, 20. The cultural month will end up with courses on Phyton and Office 365, from 23 to 26 February.
As part of the cultural activities, Astroingeo University Association will hold various activities: telescope viewings of Jupiter and artificial satellites scheduled for Thursday 5; exit to to Salinas to observe the winter sky with telescopes on Saturday 14; Thursday, 19, a workshop on GAIA Project mock-ups, and an exhibition of astronomical photographs taken by members of Astroingeo be performed.
The exhibitions will be distributed by the different university spaces. UA Museum will collect the exhibition ”Structural Point. “Arquitecturas de Luz” from 6 February to 28 March, which will be displayed in the courtyard of the Polytechnic School IV building from 16 to 20 Feb. On 20 Feb, in the same building but in the corridor next to the auditorium, the exhibition “Proyectos de Arquitectura comercial efímera” Ephemeral Commercial architecture Projects) of Quintana Street from Alicante will be presented. The University venue at San Fernando Street will show two exhibitions: “Exposición fotográfica de la ciudad de Tetuán” (Photographic exhibition of the city of Tetouan) and Exposición CASITA - Proyectos en Cuba”, both from 16 to 28 February.
