Both the University of Alicante and the University of Valencia agreed the creation of a Chair for Innovation and Internationalisation, the first one jointly managed by both institutions which will be based in the town of Ontinyent. The collaboration of both universities with the capital city of Albaida Valley as the scenario does not limit to this initiative but also to a joint Master's degree in Oenology.
Both universities' presidents Manuel Palomar and Esteban Morcillo have officially announced these initiatives in Ontinyent, where they explained that a research group will be in charge of developing an action for innovation aimed at upgrading the capital of the county as a "smart city". During the presentation at Palau de la Vila, along with the main promoters of the project, town council and Caixa Ontinyent banking entity, they highlighted the importance of involving the most of the business sector of the region in the two initiatives.
As for the Master's degree in Oenology, students who enroll for it can be eligible for the corresponding accreditation with the option of simply getting a diploma or certificate according to the different contents and subjects. The choice of Ontinyent as the place to teach the Master's degree has to do with the concurrence of three elements: the existence of university extracurricular activities, the traditional culture of the vine, and the presence of wineries.
The joint project between the two universities could become a reality next year, once they have carried out preliminary studies and defined the contents, with a Chair intended for reflection, analysis and research about innovation and internationalisation and a comprehensive Master's degree in Oenology.
President of the University of Alicante Manuel Palomar stressed that the Chair will provide the essential structure of the territory, create synergies, opportunities and exchange of researchers from both universities. University of Valencia Esteban Morcillo, stressed the importance of creating a bridge of knowledge among Valencian public universities.Meanwhile, Jorge Rodriguez, mayor of Ontinyent, was very pleased with an agreement that benefits Ontinyent very much as well as the entire county, for its projection and for its educational approach.
