The University of Alicante has inaugurated this morning the Faculty of Law Moot Court Room, one of the few existing in a Spanish university. Fully functional as a real courtroom, the new facility breaks with the concept of traditional theoretical law studies, as explained by Faculty Dean Pedro Femenía "it will allow law students to perform internal practice thorough mock oral proceedings and showcasing real trials. Thus students will have more familiarity with the legal proceedings that take place in real courtrooms. This new space will help students combine the required theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for the legal profession.
The ceremony was held with the participation of UA president Manuel Palomar and Alicante Province Court President Vicente Magro and attended by Director of Public Prosecution Jorge Rabasa Dolado, Alicante Bar Association Dean Fernando Candela and Legal Representatives Association Dean Enrique de la Cruz, together with a large representation of the university community..
Alicante Province Court Vicente Magro thanked UA President's initiative to fully prepare law students for a career in Law something that, according to him "we could not have imagined during my time as a student".
As has already happened with the new start of the Health Sciences Clinical Simulation Room, and the labs of robotics and building materials, UA President said that the inauguration of the moot court room is a proof of the UA commitment to practicality and dynamism that allows students to learn new skills as an additional complement to theoretical classes and practices in companies and institutions. It is a commitment focused on continuing to train great professionals at the highest level with the best guarantees, he concluded.
Femenía Pedro explained that the idea was implemented by the practice programme included in the Master's degree in Legal Profession jointly organised with the Bar Association. Previously, students had to travel off campus to attend these mock trials.
The project, conducted by the Director of the Campus Development Office - architect Elia Guitiérrez - has been made possible thanks to the involvement of the Vice President for Campus Facilities & Sustainability along with the UA Technical Office.
The Moot Court Room is located on the ground floor of the Faculty of Law, opposite the 'Rector Ramon Martin Mateo' Graduation Hall.
