University of Alicante and Alicante Juan Gil-Albert Cultural Institute gathers together international experts in a conference to commemorate the 4th centennial of the death of Cervantes and Shakespeare
UA’s scientific programme brings leading experts in Shakespeare and Cervantes
Archaeologist Paz de Miguel, participant in the discovery of the remains of Cervantes in the Madrid's Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians will participate on Wednesday
This scientific conference is part of an extensive programme that has been held along the year, as mentioned by UA Faculty of Arts’ Vice Dean for Academic and Postgraduate Organisation José María Ferri Coll. The common denominator of all speakers from diverse fields of knowledge is, as stated by Ferri, that each participant has published a reference work on this topic. Another of the premises for the organisation of this conference was the balance on its content. Among participants we find archaeologist Paz de Miguel, who worked in the discovery of the remains of Cervantes in the Madrid's Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians, topic on which her participation is based. Participants on Shakespeare, all of them leading experts, come from several universities from London, Cambridge, Nottingham and California.
The conference has been organised by a committee for the commemoration of the 4th Centennial of the death of Cervantes and Shakespeare at the University of Alicante, its Faculty of Arts and the departments of English Studies, of Spanish Studies, General Linguistics and Literature Theory, of Medieval History, Modern History, and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques; and the Alicante Cultural Institute Juan Gil-Albert. The Office for Culture, Sports and Language Policies and the Office for Research, Development and Innovation, along with UA Mario Benedetti Centre for Latin American Studies have also collaborated in the organisation.
Interim UA President Amparo Navarro Faure inaugurates the conference at 9.30 am with diverse scientific content around the leading figures of both international writers. She will participate in a discussion panel with Faculty of Arts’ Vice Dean Juan Francisco Mesa Sanz, 4th Centennial anniversary committee chairman José Manuel González Fernández de Sevilla, Conference Director María del Carmen Irles Vicente and Director of Alicante Cultural Institute José Ferrándiz Lozano.
