University of Alicante hosts the Spanish University Social Councils Conference

Representatives of social councils all over Spain will discuss the role of universities in creating university occupation, the performance and contribution of universities to society and the training offered by higher education institutions inter alia

Valencia Government President Ximo Puig will be responsible for closing the meeting along with University of Alicante President Manuel Palomar on Friday

Representatives of social councils from over forty Spanish universities will gather together at the University of Alicante from 8 to 10 June to participate in the Spanish University Social Councils Conference.

All social, economic, political and academic agents will be represented  in this meeting of participatory bodies of society in universities in which they will discuss on the role they have today through various presentations, lectures and debates.  

The conference will begin with a meeting of the Social Councils Secretaries Committee at casa mediterráneo on Wednesday. 

Several issues will be discussed by the representatives of social councils over three days, such as the role of the social councils in promoting university occupation, a lecture delivered by Bankia Dual Professional Training Director  Mercè Chacón. 

On the same day, a Panel discussion on the performance and contribution of universities (Rendimiento y contribución de las universidades) will be addressed with a presentation on university performance Indicators  by CYD Report General Coordinator Martí Parellada Zapato and another presentation focussed on Valencian public universities socioeconomic contribution will be delivered by Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE) researcher and lecturer and University of Valencia Faculty of Economics Dean José Manuel Pastor. 

The meeting of Spanish University Social Councils at the University of Alicante will also feature a debate on the student achievement: standards, progress requirements and permanence presented by Laureano González Vega, ANECA ex coordinator and professor at the University of Cantabria, which include case studies on the application of these standards in a discussion panel with ULPGC Social Council Chairman Angel Tristan,  University of Alicante Vice President for Students of Students Nuria Grane and University of Oviedo Social Council Secretary Ignacio Villaverde.

On Friday, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports Secretary General for Universities Jorge Sainz will deliver a lecture on the 3+2 university system who will afterwards moderate a debate on the universities training guidance with Valencia Assessment and Prospective Agency Director Salvador Palazón and Catalonia University System Quality Agency Project Manager Anna Prades.  

The closing ceremony of the conference will be held by University of Alicante President  Manuel Palomar; valencia Government President Ximo Puig, University of Alicante Social Council Chairman Francisco Gómez; Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports General Secretary Jorge Sainz; and Valencia Region Director General for Universities, Research and Science Josefina Bueno.
