Problems and solutions to CO2 pollution at the University of Alicante's IUMA on 20th October

"Technological solutions to the CO2 problem" will bring together experts from private companies, research centres and universities


Alicante. 17 October 2017

The Alicante Institute of Materials (IUMA) and the Spanish CO2 Technological Platform (PTECO2) are organising a seminar on "Technical Solutions to CO2  Problems, on Friday, 20 October 2017 at the University of Alicante Faculty of Science boardroom.

The purpose of the Seminar is to address CO2 problems, greenhouse gases whose excessive emissions have serious consequences for the planet and life. The activity will be sponsored by PTECO2, an initiative promoted by the private sector, research centres and Spanish universities, partially funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MEIC), which brings together representatives of this ministry, as well as of the Ministries of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda (MINETAD), and Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA). The PTECO2 addresses a technological development in Spain that contributes to reduce the environmental, social and economic impact derived from the emissions of greenhouse gases in our country. The University of Alicante is one of the eight universities participating in the PTECO2.

The meeting aims to present the challenges posed by the CO2 problem, as well as the possibilities to solve it. The seminar will offer the attendees the opportunity to learn from internationally renowned experts about a series of technologies to alleviate the growing CO2 problem. Representatives of the platform will participate in this session. 

At 11 am, organisers Ángel Berenguer and Enrique Ramos will welcome  and present the seminar along with Office for Knowledge Transfer Director Mª Jesús Pastor.

Next, Pedro Mora will present the PTECO2 and the training group. Capture technologies, transport, storage and uses of CO2, by Bernardo Llamas, expert from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Followed by “CO2 Capture”, por Juan Pablo Marco, from G2MTech; “Use Introduction”, by María del Carmen Román,from UA; “CO2FORMARE Project, as a case study of CO2 Use”, by Carlos Padilla, a representative of Iberdrola. The event will finish with a panel discussion on climate change and technologies and, CO2 use and storage.

This activity is mainly addressed to undergraduate, Mastre’s and PhD students. The sessions will be developed at the University of Alicante faculty of Science boardroom. All places are covered.

The organising committee is made up by IUMA PhDs Ángel Berenguer and Enrique V. Ramos; and PhD Bernardo Llamas, from the Higher Technical School of Mine and Energy Engineering, Polytechnic University of Madrid. 

The aim of PTECO2 is to encourage investment in R&D+i, to promote the craetion of an innovative business fabric and to increase technological capacity in the processes of improving CO2 efficiency, capture, transport, storage and recovery, as well as to boost the implementation of these technologies in the industry.
