University of Alicante gets fully involved in fighting against gender-based violence
The institution commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at the Gender Equality Square on Thursday at 12 noon
The University of Alicante, as well as its venues and off-campus culture halls, are hosting a number of activities on the occasion of # 25N throughout the month of November

The activities organised around the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women will be host at the University of Alicante Equality Square on 22 November. The scheduled events will begin at 12 noon with a minute’s silence for women victims of gender-based violence and then the manifesto of the Spanish University Network of Gender Equality for University Excellence (RUIGEU) will be read.
Next, the dance company Hermanas Gesting will perform Good Girl. The show won the first prize of the Madrid Choreographic Contest and the Lorca Best Female Performance of Contemporary Dance Award 2017.
The UA has also organised an awareness campaign (Anti-Mistreatment Cream)that will be active from 19 to 23 November. The AM Cream is a limited edition of artist Juan F. Navarro’s work. It is an ironic design that seeks to create a debate about how the media manage to transfer the responsibility of a macho aggression to the victim. The AM.Anti-Mistreatment Cream was one of the 15 proposals selected, among the 200 presented, in the 12th edition of the 2018 Mulier Mulieris Visual Arts Contest and was distributed among the university centres as well as in the surrounding area of the Equality Square.
The University of Alicante is carrying out information sessions on the UA protection from harassment policy. Its goal aims to make the university community aware of these behavioural patterns and provide the channels to assist victims if required.
A comprehensive activity agenda, organised by the University of Alicante, will be held to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, both on-campus and at the UA off-campus culture halls all over the province.
On 22 November, under the motto Against gender-based violence: Lend a hand, the UA Main Library has organised an activity to design a mosaic showing us all together against gender violence. Also, the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences has organised a lecture on social sciences and innovation as an answer to gender-based violence, by Marta Monllor on 27 November and at the library of this faculty, a selected bibliography against gender-based violence will be displayed for the ninth year in a row up to 14 December. At the Faculty of Health Sciences, the short film “Ana27” by director Lidiana Rodríguez will be screened followed by a discussion on 28 November at 11 am.
The Torrevieja University Venue has scheduled a wide range of activities in the context of #25N such as the street theatre performance Fémina. Las Mujeres Mueven el Mundo on 25 November at 6 pm. at Paseo Vistalegre. The film “Sólo mía” will be screened at the CIAJ on 22 November at 5.30 pm, the exhibition “No tengo dueño” will be displayed from 28 November to 11 December at the exhibition hall of the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre, and a workshop on the right to a life free of gender-based violence, concepts, identification and protocol to follow, by María Concepción Torres Díaz on 30 November at 5 pm, at the same cultural centre mentioned above.
At the UA off-campus culture hall in Sant Joan, the #25N is covered through a variety of talks on feminism, a lecture on gender-based violence and local assistance to victims, by Jorge Payá, on 21 November at 7 pm, at the Sant Joan Cultural Centre and the screening of the films Battle of Sexes and The Bookshop (both in Spanish).
