UA Social Council will celebrate the 3rd edition of this awards in a gala that will take place at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), where representatives from the economic, academic, professional and social spheres will meet to reward excellence and commitment with the University of Alicante.
In the 3rd edition of these awards, the University of Alicante Social Council aims to repay outstanding career trajectories in the academic, cultural and professional scopes, in sponsorship, research, employability, sports and volunteering, by companies, institutions and individuals who have excelled in their respective fields. Coincidentally, University of Alicante Social Council former chairman Francisco Gómez Andreu will also receive an honourable mention this year.
Also, this will be the first public event for Adolfo Utor — Baleària President — as the University of Alicante Social Council chairman, who was appointed on 15 February this year.
The UA Social Council will reward a total of 23 people in 13 different categories as follows: Carmencita, in the category of Research Chair in Business; Cajamar in Artistic and Cultural Sponsorship, Bioithas in Research Sponsorship; Villa Universitaria in Sponsorship in Education; and Verne Group in Employability.
In Academic Career, University of Alicante former president Salvador Ordóñez and Francisco Rodríguez Reinoso in Research. Casa Mediterráneo will be awarded for its University Involvement, and UA Lifelong Learning Programme, for its Social Involvement.
Excellent students and alumni are also among those awarded by the Social Council, such as Alumni Carmina Díaz Marín (head of the Alicante General Hospital Neurology Service ) and José Antonio Gutiérrez Navarro (head of the Elche University Hospital Emergency Service), both graduates in Medicine from the University of Alicante. Gala Gil Amat, founder of a startup in Silicon Valley and manager and responsible for investments in London of the Valencia company Manager and responsible for has also been awarded in this category.
In addition, as is usual since the creation of these awards in the category of Academic Performance, the University of Alicante Social Council has rewarded those students with the best record.
The awarded student this year are: María Alfaro Contreras, from the Polytechnic School (undergraduate degree in Sound and Image Engineering in Telecommunications); Mónica Abellán Zárate, from the Faculty Science (undergraduate degree in Biology); Laura Miralles Amorós, from the Faculty of Health Sciences (undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics); Rodrigo Ramis Moyano, from the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences (undergraduate degree in Sociology); Germán Martínez Fajardo, from the Faculty of Law (undergraduate degree in Public Management and Administration); María de la Asunción Torregrosa Díaz, from the Faculty of Education (undergraduate degree in Primary Education); and Raquel Rocamora Montenegro, from the Faculty of Arts (undergraduate degree in Spanish Language and Literatures).
In the Sports category, Olympic Juan Escarré will receive an award, as well as the University of Alicante federated volleyball team of female players.
In Volunteering, the University of Alicante students participating in the project “La Mar Solidaria” will be awarded this year.
