The UA Pedro Ferrándiz Research Chair in Sports organises this conference on sports study and analysis annually
Alicante, Monday 06 May 2019
The University of Alicante multimedia room at the University Council and Administration building has become too small to host the 3rd Conference on Journalism and Sports organised each year by the Pedro Ferrándiz Research Chair in Sports and this time has brought together Vicente del Bosque and Pedro Ferrándiz, both recognised with the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sports Merit.
The former Spanish national team spoke before an audience eager to hear about life in the locker room with premier-league players. Del Bosque thanked the University of Alicante for the opportunity to address young students and analysed coexistence from the heart of the teams and stressed the importance of group management to meet sporting challenges. According to him, one has to be normal in the locker room. He had great masters, true humanists who conveyed passion and poise. Sometimes, the coach has to be more attentive to the theatre than to the actors.
Before his speech, presented by AS sports paper international correspondent Joaquín Maroto, the invited guest was Pedro Ferrándiz who gives his name to this sports research chair. A video about his career and sporting merits served as a tribute to this key player in the modernisation of Spanish basketball.
Also, the UA President stressed the relevance of sports at the University of Alicante, which are classified in three essentials: training, practice, and study/analysis as we are doing here through this conference on Journalism and Sports organized every year by the Pedro Ferrándiz Research Chair in Sports.
Palomar once again thanked Ferrándiz for lending his name to the research chair and for his involvement when it comes to carrying out activities. He also thanked the AS newspaper and the Youth Sports Foundation for its commitment to promote this conference which is already a hallmark in the study and analysis of the sports world.
In fact, the director of the Youth Sports Foundation, attached to the Spanish Sports Council, Alfonso Jiménez, pointed out the relevance of this conference when it comes to disseminating the study and analysis of sports for students. Also, AS sports daily editor Alfredo Relaño did not miss the opportunity to thank the University of Alicante for this initiative before presenting the protagonists and the subsequent discussion with journalists Roberto Gómez, Lorena González, Tomás Roncero and Cristóbal Soria, moderated by Javier Gómez-Matallanas.
Pedro Ferrándiz Research Chair in Sports Director Aranzazu Calzada was in charge of conducting the event and highlighted that after three years of organising this conference they have managed to take the analysis and reflections on the sports world to the university setting through its leading figures.
