Alicante, Monday 13 May 2019
The University of Alicante Mario Benedetti Centre for Ibero-American Studies (CeMaB) is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its creation in 2019, as part of the 40th anniversary of the UA. On this occasion, CeMaB has developed a special programme to commemorate this anniversary, which began last February with lectures by writers and book presentations, academic activities, a conference and cultural activities. The programme around this celebration will culminate with a central event on Friday 17 May, a date that marks the 10th anniversary of the poet’s death.
The event will take place at 12 noon in the University of Alicante Museum “El Cub” exhibition hall, presided over by UA President Manuel Palomar. There, a special contribution will be made by two writers who maintained a close link with both Benedetti and the Centre that bears his name: El País Deputy Director and Cervantes Institute Director Luis García Montero. Also, current CeMaB director Eva Valero, the creator of the Centre, Professor José Carlos Rovira, and the director of the Centre for twelve years until 2012, Professor Carmen Alemany, and professor of Hispanic American Literature at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Teodosio Fernández, will participate in the event.
