University of Alicante commemorates its 40th anniversary with an exhibition for the senses about its past, present and future
The hall of the UA Governing Council building hosts an exhibition that revolves around the three key elements of the institution, that is, nature, architecture and people, which immerses the visitor in a journey through its past, present and future
Alicante, Tuesday 12 November 2019
UA President Manuel Palomar and exhibition director Elia Gutierrez inaugurated the event on the university spaces and times to commemorate the University of Alicante’s 40th anniversary on Tuesday. All the exhibits have been displayed all over the hall of the UA Governing Council building — an emblematic work by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza — in a way that, from the very first moment, they invite visitors to immerse in the different spaces, where the fabrics hanging from the ceiling act as cohesive elements
UA President stated in his speech that it has been 40 years of looking to the future and he pointed out that the University of Alicante is a school of thought and we have been teaching people to think for four decades. Palomar stressed that the exhibition revolves around three axes that represent this university, that is nature, the campus and its people, and at the same time it offers us a journey through the past, the present and also the future of the institution.
Director of the Campus Development Office, architect Elia Gutiérrez, has been in charge of the exhibition management and coordination, together with the UA Institutional Relations Unit and the collaboration of several university areas, such as the University of Alicante General Foundation Audiovisual Studio for audiovisual works. She said that the exhibition is an invitation to discover the University from the senses and with a view to the future. Hence the explanation that reads in Spanish on the poster of the exhibition presentation, which can be translated as: “We invite you to explore journey for the senses: for you to see, for you to hear, for you to smell, for you to touch and be caressed by the fabrics... for you to enjoy and let your imagination fly. For you to feel happy for living land working here. For many more people to be able to experience this sensation in the future”.
Representatives of the governing team and many members of the university community attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, as well as José María García de los Ríos, regional director of Santander Universidades and collaborator of the exhibition, as well as the ARN architects and Estudio Além, in charge of bringing the project to life. The exhibition will be open until 13 December
