Alicante hosts the 8th International Conference on Carbon for Energy Storage and Environmental Protection
The meeting is held from 20 to 24 October and is organised by the Spanish Carbon Group (GEC) and the University of Alicante Materials Institute.
UA President Manuel Palomar will open the meeting on Monday 21 at 8.30 am in the Alicante Golf Hotel.
Alicante, Friday, 18 October 2019
CESEP'19, that is to say, the 8th International Conference Carbon for Energy Storage and Environmental Protection, aims to bring together scientists, engineers and technologists and is intended to provide a forum for discussion on the fundamental scientific and technological aspects of carbon applications related to energy storage and environmental protection. The goal is to stimulate fruitful debate, new ideas and partnership between experts from different fields.
Around 140 participants and 150 communications are expected, including two plenary lectures on the use of carbon materials for energy storage and generation. The high quality contributions are essentially geared towards the development of a cleaner and more sustainable environment that can reduce the carbon footprint.
The conference has been organised by the Spanish Carbon Group (GEC) and the University of Alicante Materials Institute. Carbon materials constitute a large family of diverse structures and textures that underlie a growing range of applications, as evidenced by the impressive number of research articles published on this regard. Carbon materials are involved in a large number of highly specialised applications so far. Applications related to environmental protection — such as removal of air and water pollutants and CO2 capture, storage and power generation, semiconductors, transparent conductive materials, structural materials, biomaterials, chemical sensors, biosensors, catalysis and photocatalysis. These are examples of the fields in which the presence of carbon materials plays an essential role. An excellent instance of the relevance of the theme of this conference is the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2019 awarded for the development of lithium-ion batteries.
