University of Alicante will be running three days of activities to welcome the nearly 6,000 newcomers

The Main Library colonnade will be hosting a comprehensive activity programme offering the university services to newcomers from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26

The welcome events will end up with the European Researchers' Night, which will be held on campus on 27 September, and a concert by the reggae fusion music group Auxili and rapper Lildami on 2 October.

For one more year, the University of Alicante has designed a varied activity programme to welcome the nearly 6,000 new students enrolled in our university this year. The Main Library colonnade will be main setting of these events where students will get to know all the services offered by the UA.

Nearly 40 activities make up the three-day agenda to welcome new students, including several workshops, exhibitions, games, tastings, performances, concerts or open days, among other activities. All the University of Alicante services will be offered at the booths located on the Main Library colonnade where freshers will be able to explore the extracurricular activities that they are offered to complement the mainstream curriculum.

The opening speech will be given by Vice President for Students and Employment Nuria Grané on Tuesday 24 at 11.30 am at the UA Gender Equality Square accompanied by the managing team and the UA Student Council which, like every year, designs activities for students.

There is also a permanent programme during the three days, including a Cultural Gymkhana, organised by the Culture Office, where the winner can be awarded a sports camera. Sports and Languages. The University Library Services has organised an interactive quiz for studentsthat combines online social media and the activities organised by the UA Students Council, with information on regulations, exams, scientific experiments, drawings and prizes, sports activities with prizes: basket, goal, badminton and ping-pong, information on associations and a photo-call on The Lord of the Rings.

The UA Sports Service has also contributed with its UA Sports Programme, offering demos on rugby, indoor rowing, and traditional regional boat (llaüt), scuba diving, foot-volley and adaptive basketball. On Tuesday, in the context of the welcome week, the UA federated teams will be presented and on Thursday, ex-pilot of the Spanish Navy and football coach Patricia Campos will offer a talk. On the same day, the students will have the opportunity to get to know the UA climbing wall/boulder, in an open activity and also attend the presentation of the UA mountain group at 11 am, opposite the Main Library.

The University of Alicante Employment centre joins the welcome events with two activities, the Entrepreneur Escape Room and the €5 Challenge and the university ombudsperson will participate in the word game Scrabble.

Organised by the Culture Service, we find several activities such as OFUA String Quartet on 24 September at 1.30 pm. The Theatre Club will perform, Contra el amor, on 25 September at 12 noon. And on 26, also at 12 noon, the Dance Club will perform its production, directed by Carlos Peñalver.

The Office of the Vice President for Corporate Social Responsibility, Inclusion and Gender Equality also offers its activities, such as the Lion Dance, by the Club Kungfu Longmenpai, on 25 September, Japanese songs with dolçaina, also on 25 from 12.30 pm to 1 pm and a bike workshop. On 26 September at 12 noon, they perform Diseño con causa. Crisis migratoria del Mediterráneo adn the on the same day at 12.30 pm a flamenco show by Arte Rom.

In order to celebrate the European Day of Languages, several activities have been organised, including a stand-up comedy (Pompeu Fabra: jugada mestra) by Inútils Mots-Teatre de la Paraula. Also on the 26 September, the International Relations Service offers a language exchange at the assembly hall of the Jorge Juan building.

Our Health Awareness Programme has scheduled two activities on the context on the skin cancer prevention campaign, offering fruit and hats on the one hand, and on the other, a yoga activity.

On the evening of Friday 27 September, the welcome events scheduled will culminate with the European Researchers' Night to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the institution. An activity designed for all audiences, dedicated to science and technology and open to all Alicante society. This is a commitment to bring science to everyone and especially to children and young people in order to promote scientific and technological vocations.

More than 90 researchers will take part in a conference with more than 35 scheduled actions and the collaboration of a hundred students from all the university centres.

The programme intended for the European Researchers' Night 2019 includes two participation categories from 5 pm to 9 pm. The first, with free access activities for children and families, will have more than 25 booths for experiments, demonstrations and activities in all areas of knowledge, and the second, activities have been scheduled with prior registration for youth and adult (from 12 years) as workshops on Criminology, Astronomy, Robotics and Herbarium at the Faculty of Law.

Concert on 2 October

The last of the welcome events will take place on 2 October with a concert by fusion reggae music group Auxili and rapper Lildami. It will be held on 2 October from 8 pm at the UA Auditorium.
