The University of Alicante is holding the 2020 Impulso Gala on Wednesday 15 July at 12 noon in the Auditorium, where the winners of the latest edition of the Impulso Awards will be announced for the innovative business initiatives award. This year the Gala will be subject to the exceptional measures arising from the Covid-19. For this reason the capacity of the auditorium will be limited to ensure the safety and hygiene measures provided by health authorities and keeping safety distances.
The Impulso Awards, organised by the University of Alicante and the FAlicante Science Park Foundation in the region of Valencia (FPCA), aim to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit among the university community and promote the creation of companies. In this ninth edition, 37 proposals are eligible to achieve one of the most innovative and sustainable initiative awards from the university community.
Two categories for participation have been established: A Category, dedicated to business projects promoted by research staff, PhD holders and PhD students, with a prize of €12,000, in which two projects will be awarded and one of them can achieve a maximum of €8,000; and B Category, for business proposals promoted by students or graduates, with two awards of €1,500. Additionally, in this 2020 edition, the Alicante Science Park Foundation will present two prizes of €3,000 each for the first category, and two prizes of €2,000 for B category. Also, two of these projects will be offered the chance of using the Innospace premises for six months.
On the other hand, the initiatives presented for the Impulso 2020 Awards, regardless of the category, will be eligible for four other awards: the Social Entrepreneurship Award from the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and the Research Chair for Social Responsibility; the Award from the Office of the Vice President for Campus Facilities and Technology; the Accessibility Award; and finally, the Germán Bernácer Research Chair Award, the last three being from the University of Alicante.
During the 2020 Impulso Gala, presided over by University of Alicante President Manuel Palomar, several awards will be presented to the most collaborative company in R&D, the most collaborative company in employability and practices, and the Alicante Science Park firm of the year.
Prior to the awards ceremony, led by Student Support Office Director Pepi Parreño and Research Results Transfer Office Director Victor Perez, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer Rafael Muñoz, with the participation of businessman Iñaqui Berenguer from Alicante.
