This label is part of the International Quality Label of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), which was launched in October 2017 as an evolution of the former Acredita Plus programme. In order to obtain such a label, certification by an international accreditation agency for Quality in Higher Education (the ECTN, in this case) and the endorsement of a national professional institution of recognised prestige (the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry) are required, as well as a recognised European national quality accreditation agency, such as ANECA. All three bodies are based on external auditing that includes the visit of a panel of external expert evaluators.
On 1 July, the University of Alicante had the online visit of the evaluation panel, made up of five members, who had interviews with the Vice President for Quality, with the Faculty of Science dean's team and with the coordinator of the undergraduate degree, as well as with lecturers, students, employers and graduates. In addition, they had access to all the data on the degree, provided by both the Faculty and our Technical Quality Office. They were also given access to the reports and minutes of the meetings that ensure the proper functioning of the Faculty of Science Internal Quality Assurance System.
The awarding of the label was provisionally notified last December and has now been ratified. Obtaining a seal of this type guarantees that a degree meets the highest quality criteria established in Europe, agreed by international quality assurance agencies in higher education, based on international standards set by employers in Europe. Moreover, the recognition of an International Quality Label ensures the reliability of the information offered and the processes developed in the degree and attracts potential students. In particular, the Quality Seal makes employers aware that the knowledge and practical competences of the degree graduates have reached the highest international standards in education in the field of the degree.
The ECTN awards three types of International Quality Labels in the field of Chemistry, all of them under the name Eurolabel: the label for undergraduate degrees (Chemistry Eurobachelor), the label for Master degrees (Chemistry Euromaster), and the label for PhD degrees (Chemistry Doctorate Eurolabel). According to the information available on ANECA's own website, only six universities in Spain had a Eurobachelor label until April 2020: the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the University of Cordoba, the University of La Laguna, the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Valencia. The University of Alicante has now joined them.
With this label, the University of Alicante has collected ten distinctions of this type in many other degrees. International Quality Labels had been restricted to two areas so far: Engineering (EUR-ACE label), and Information Technology and Computer Science (EURO-INFO label). The University of Alicante already had nine of these distinctions, to which the new international recognition, now in the field of Chemistry, after the launch of the EUROLABEL has been added.
