The ranking highlights the UA degree in Social Work as the best in Spain and places Tourism, Optics and Optometry, Nursing and Hispanic Philology among the top five in the country

Alicante, Friday 21 May 2021

The ranking of 2021 best universities in Spain by undergraduate degree of the newspaper El Mundo places five degrees of the University of Alicante among the favourites of the students and among the best to study in the whole country, Social Work, Tourism, Optics and Optometry, Nursing and Hispanic Studies, which sneaks for the first time in the classification of the national media.

The university ranking has once again praised the undergraduate degree in Social Work, which appears as the best in Spain according to a detailed analysis of 25 criteria, the opinion of 2,000 lecturers and other external studies, such as international rankings or reports from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), which is the basis for the ranking published this week.

This year, the degree in Social Work has regained the first position in the ranking, also achieved in previous rankings. External internships are the great commitment of this degree to guarantee the highest levels of quality in the training of the graduates. They are carried out in the 3rd and 4th years and cover 48 ECTS (1,200 hours), making it the degree with the highest number of internships in Spain.

Tourism appears as the third best option in Spain for these studies. Once again, external internships are its greatest asset. They are compulsory (12 ECTS) and can be carried out both in public institutions and in many private companies thanks to the relevance of the tourism sector on the Costa Blanca.

The University of Alicante undergraduate degree in Optics and Optometry Universidad de Alicante is fourth in th ranking. The programme of Optics and Optometry includes a large number of internships both in the laboratories and in the centre’s clinic, something highly valued when choosing the university where to study.

El Mundo ranking also recognises the Nursing and Hispanic Studies undergraduate degrees among the five best in Spain. In Nursing, the compulsory external internships represent more than 50% of the total credits dedicated to the specific training of the degree, one of its strengths, and Hispanic Philology, which appears among the best degrees in Spain to be studied at the University of Alicante for the first time, has a curriculum of the Grado en Español: Lengua y Literaturas that offers a modular structure that allows students to create their own training itinerary.

The ranking also places the University of Alicante as the second university with the second highest number of degrees among the best in Spain of all the universities in the region of Valencia, only behind the UPV, followed by the University of Valencia with 4, the UMH with 2 and the Jaume I University of Castellón with 1.
