Inauguration of the 1st University Hispanic-Algerian Meeting at the UA

The University of Alicante hosted on Monday, 23rd and Tuesday, 24th April, the 1st University Hispanic-Algerian Meeting that gathers together University Presidents, Vice Presidents as well as members of Spanish and Algerian universities and representatives of the business and productive world.
The inauguration was presided by the University of Alicante's President, Ignacio Jimenez Raneda. On the Spanish side, the Vice President of the Spanish University Presidents' Conference (CRUE), Montserrat Casas Ametller, the Vice Chairman of the I Vives University Network, Joan Viñas Salas, the Director-General of the Casa Mediterráneo, Almudena Muñoz Guajardo have participated. On the Algerian side, were the Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research Training of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria, Houria Rebbah, and the diplomat attachè in charge of Cultural Affairs and Cooperation of the Embassy of Algeria in Spain, Amel Djellab.
The University of Alicante's President, Ignacio Jimenez Raneda, stressed the need to set up new relations between universities of both sides of the Mediterranean Arch to deepen their ties, and claimed the importance of the internationalization of universities. In this sense, Raneda Jimenez gave the example of the "hard work" developed in recent years in Algeria Universities Programme (PAU) as the source of this first meeting. In addition, the President has insisted on the important work through the Inter-University Cooperation Programmes (ICP), which in recent years have been supported by the Spanish Agency of International Development Cooperation (AECID).
For his part, the Vice President of the Spanish University Presidents' Conference (CRUE) and the University of the Balearic Islands' President, Montserrat Casas, noted the importance of the collaboration between the institutions of higher education internationally.
The Vice Chairmanof the Vives Network, Joan Viñas, has reviewed the work done since 2007, jointly by this Network and the Algeria Regional Conference of Western Universities (CRUO), within the framework of the Algeria Universities Programme. At this point, Viñas pointed out that 25 projects were carried out in teaching, research and knowledge transfer, with the participation of 37 universities and with the involvement of dozens of teachers, administrators and student services.
The Director-General of the Casa Mediterráneo, Almudena Muñoz, in her first public speech as the head of this institution, has offered to all universities in the Mediterranean basin the collaboration of the Casa Mediterráneo to promote and strengthen economic and professionals relations.
On the Algerian side, the diplomat attachè in charge of Cultural Affairs and Cooperation of the Embassy of Algeria in Spain, Amel Djellab, has shown the desire that the meeting will be fruitful and can realize the possibilities of cooperation between the participating institutions, organizations and companies involved.
Finally, Ouiza Cherifi, President of the National Conference of Algerian Universities and the President of the University of Boumerdes, has indicated that these meetings are a good opportunity to review successful experiences in the field of university cooperation and expressed her satisfaction with the possibilities for new partnerships to strengthen existing links between Algerian and Spanish universities.
The 1st Spanish-Algerian Universities Meeting is organized by the Spanish University Presidents' Conference (CRUE), the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria, Vives University Network and the Spanish Agency for International Development cooperation with Casa Mediterráneo and the University of Alicante.
