In just three years, the UA has achieved its first world class rankings on open knowledge.
The University of Alicante has entered the Top 100 Web Ranking of Repositories in the world. This was made public in January, in which the UA Repository is number 81 of a total of 1,185, which represents an increase of 46 places from the previous ranking in 2010. In the section of institutional repositories, the RUA position is further consolidated and ranked number 61 of the 1121 repositories listed, going up 52 positions in one year.
As for the Top 100 at the European level, RUA is ranked 32 and it is ranked at 5th position among the Spanish repositories, only behind the repositories of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, CSIC, Polytechnic University of Catalonia and Complutense University of Madrid.
Juan José Bayona, Director of the Secretariat for the University Library, said "the repository has allowed us to spread and preserve the scientific knowledge production of the University of Alicante, for which we have enabled a common space".
For Bayona, "the success of RUA in the final ranking is a success of the entire university community, because it means its members understands the philosophy of this tool and the commitment to the open knowledge supporting it".
The University of Alicante's Repository was founded in May 2007 to allow open access to the UA scientific and educational output, with the aim of giving greater visibility, and impact, and ensure the preservation of this production. To this end, the UA offers open access to full text digital documents generated by members of the University of Alicante in teaching and research. RUA gets all kinds of digital materials in various formats, both as postprints preprints, conference papers, working papers, teaching materials and learning objects, as well as journals published by the University of Alicante. The Repository is also provides advice to researchers about their right to self-archive the work that had been published.
