Federico Mayor Zaragoza opens a lecture series on Capitalism and alternatives at the UA

New date for the keynote speech confirmed: Wednesday, 8th February, at 8 pm, at the University Venue in Alicante City

Federico Mayor, who was once the UNESCO Director-General, opened a lecture series on Capitalism and Alternatives at the University of Alicante. It has been created as a time for reflection in which renowned experts as Miren Etxezerreta, Monica Frassoni, Josep Fontana and Salvador Giner will participate. They will analyze possible alternatives to the capitalist system and assess the consequences on the political and social scope. The first session, in which the University of Alicante's, Ignacio Jimenez Raneda, will also particpate, will be held on Wednesday, 8th February, at 8 pm, at the University Venue in Alicante city.

The lecture series, organized by the Office of the Vice President for Extracurricular Activities and the collaboration of IEC and the University of Valencia's Journal Espill, are part of the Pensar el Segle XXI Project, which was started in 2005 under the coordination of Ferran Isabel and Faust Ripoll. Since then, lecture series on European Identities (2005), Politics and Citizenship (2007), Secularism and Relgion in Europe (2009) have been organized, in which women and men experts in history, sociology, politics and economics have participated.  Jordi Pujol, Josep Fontana, Isabel Morant, Margarita Boladeras, Sami Naïr, Carles Duarte, Josep Ramoneda, Joan Francesc Mira, Victòria Camps or Dominique Schnapper, have been some of the guest lectures. Th electures of this project can be consulted in the thinking journal L’Espill, from the University of Valencia.

The series will be held at the Alicante Venue and the UA Faculty of Economics' Assembly Hall. Admission is free subject to the hall capacity. Those who register for this lecture series can apply for  one free-elective credit certificate.
