The UA Governing Council approved the gold medal award to Francisco Javier Guerra Sogorb

The appointment of the historian from Havana as a doctor honoris causa has also been agreed to in today's meeting
The University of Alicante's Governing Council has decided this morning to award the gold medal of this institution to Francisco Javier Guerra Sogorb, manager of the Valencia Housing Institute (IVVSA). Similarly, the Council has also approved the appointment of Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of Havana (Cuba) as a doctor honoris causa of the University of Alicante.
The University of Alicante awarded the gold medal to Sogorb in recognition of his close collaboration and support to the UA in the management and development of a Special Plan for public rotational reservation of land, already approved for the development of Science Park Alicante promoted by the University of Alicante.
Similarly, the appointment of Eusebio Leal as a doctor honoris causa has also been approved for his close relationship with the UA through The Havana City Historian's Office, which facilitated the implementation of the UA Havana Project in 1996 . The development of the Havana Project has enabled that the University of Alicante is the Spanish university with stronger links with Cuban universities.
Brief curriculum vitae of Javier Sogorb Guerra
Alicante, 30 April 1961. Degree in Law. Urban Development Specialist by University of Alicante. Between 1982 and 1995, he developed different roles in the Territorial Planning Service of the COPUT Alicante, including the Territorial Planning Head and Secretary of the Planning Commission of Alicante.
From 2007 to present, he holds the position of manager of the Valencia Housing Institute. On behalf of IVVSA, he is board advisor to various public and commercial joint ventures and member of the Housing Advisory Council, attached to the Department of Environment, Water, Housing and Urban Development.
He has collaborated in the book “Derecho Urbanístico de la Comunidad Valenciana”.
Brief curriculum vitae of Eusebio Leal Spengler
Havana, 11 September 1942. Doctor of Historical Sciences at the University of Havana. Master in Latin America, the Caribbean and Cuba. Specialist in Archaeological Sciences. He has completed postgraduate studies in Italy on restoration of historic centers, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic. Deputy to the National Assembly of Popular Power in the IV, V and VI Congresses. Goodwill Ambassador of the Organization of the United Nations. In 1967, he was appointed as the Director of the Habana City Museum. Historian of Havana City. He is the Chairman of the National Monuments Commission, President of the ICOM Cuban Committee and Honorary President of ICOMOS Cuban Committee, Dean of the Faculty of "St. Jerome College in Havana." He has written essays, prefaces and articles on the history of Cuba and abroad.
