The University of Alicante, the Alicante Science Park Foundation and the Antolin Group create a leading lab for research into Graphene and Nanotechnology
Alicante, June 8, 2011
The University of Alicante, Alicante Science Park Foundation and the company Grupo Antolin, have signed this morning a cooperation agreement at the headquarters of Grupo Antolin in Burgos, in which they have agreed to set up a leading lab for research into graphene and nanotechnology , the Joint Research GRAnPH-LAB.
Manuel Palomar, acting chairman of the Alicante Science Park Foundation, the Vice President for Institutional Relations, Aránzazu Calzada, representing the UA and José Manuel Temiño by the part of Grupo Antolin Ingeniería, have signed this agreement, which will have an initial term of two years with the establishment of this laboratory for purely scientific purposes.
The signing was attended by Joaquin Marhuenda, Vice President for Study Programmes Planning and Research.
The agreement envisages the development of the project “Investigación sobre la obtención de nanoplaquetas de óxido de grafeno a partir de nanofibras de carbono y la purificación, reducción y deposición controlada de las mismas” (Research on the obtaining graphene oxide nanoplatelets from carbon nanofibers and controlled purification, reduction and deposition of the same).
Grupo Antolin and the University of Alicante began their collaboration in 2004, developing projects and research lines in the field of nanotechnology, particularly in carbon nanofibers. The results have been -up to date- of high technological interest. For this reason, both parties are interested in joining their efforts in researching and promoting better development of their research activities in the area of graphenes and nanomaterials.
Both organizations wish to focus the joint research in nanotechnology and, more specifically, in graphene, on the obtaining of new technological knowledge aimed at emerging industrial applications.
Grupo Antolin leading global supplier of components for vehicle interiors, overhead systems, doors and seats. The company employs over 11,700 people with a turnover of 2.126 million euros in 2010. It operates in 23 countries with 88 plants and 20 technical-commercial offices.
