The University of Alicante and the Red Cross start today the 2nd Conference on International Humanitarian Law

Conflicts such as Libya will be treated by specialists in Public International Law and International Relations
The Second Edition of the Conference on International Humanitarian Law, organized by the University of Alicante's Interuniversity Centre for European Studies and the Spanish Red Cross, starting on Monday, 26th March, at 12 noon, at the UA Faculty of Law's Assembly Hall. The Conference will be presented by Amparo Navarro, Dean of the UA Faculty of Law, Jaume Ferrer, UA Interuniversity Centre for European Studies, Emilio Bascuñana, Chairman of the Spanish Red Cross in Alicante, and José Luis Rodríguez-Villasante, Director of the Centre for the Study of International Humanitarian Law.
The goal is that Law students and all those participanting in the Conference know, first hand, the application of international humanitarian law. Therefore, from Monday, 26th March until Wednesday, 28th March, the presentations of experts will relate the issues to be dealt with current cases, as the conflict in Libya or the judgment of International Court of Justice in the Germany-Italy case. Attendees will learn how the Red Cross International Committee (ICRC) works in the protection of war victims, as well as delving deeply into issues such as the application of IHL in armed conflicts, the application of it by international criminal courts and the amendment of the Criminal Code relating to war crimes.
