The University of Alicante leads the first project between the EU and Libya in higher education

The project will promote the quality of the university education system in Libya.
For the first time, following the recent sociopolitical events which occurred in Libya, the European Union and the Libyan country, will implement a joint project led by the University of Alicante: FOCUS Project for the development of quality culture at the universities of Libya.
The project is directed by the Office for International Projects Management, under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation at the University of Alicante, and will last for three years.
FOCUS is financed by the European Union and is included within the Tempus Programme for Higher Education. The project aims at developing a feasible and sustainable quality control system in Libyan universities, based on the exchange of experience of European professionals with their Libyan counterparts.
For this reason a Libyan delegation will visit the University of Alicante for a first meeting of bilateral cooperation to be held on the Campus, on 5th and 6th March.
The meeting will be chaired by the Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation at the University of Alicante, Manuel Palomar, Cecilia Gomez, Vice President for Strategic Planning and Quality, the rectors of the Libyan International Medical University, the University of Benghazi and the Vice Chancellor the Quality Control Unit of the Omar Al-MokhtarUniversity.
The University of Alicante leads FOCUS Project also involving an Irish university (University College of Cork) and two Swedish institutions of higher education (Royal Institute of Technology and National Agency for Higher Education).
Tempus IV is a programme funded by the European Union which supports the modernization of higher education in partner countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region. The Tempus Programme promotes institutional cooperation focusing on the reform and modernization of higher education systems in partner countries. The University of Alicante is Europe's leader this programme, both for the number of projects led by and for the funding received by these initiatives.
