In reference to Royal Decree-Law14/2012of 20April,on urgent measures torationalize public spendingin education, whichregulates theratesand public fees of university studies,the commitment scheme of the academic staff and thefinancial management ofuniversities, theStanding Committee of theCRUEwishes to expressthe following:
1.- Rejectoutrightthe procedure followed bythe Ministryof Education, Cultureand Sports,in whichmeasuresof vital importance inthe operation and managementof universities, includingtheRoyal Decree-Law,have been knownthroughofthe mediaand itspublication in theOfficial Gazette.
2.-Request with theMinisterJosé Ignacio Wert an urgent meeting of theUniversities Council,and include inthe Agenda the study theaforementionedRoyal Decree, in orderfor universitiestoexpress to the Ministryitsviews on matters ofsuch importance forthe university system.
3.-Categoricallyrejectthe arguments defendedby the Ministrythat point out to theinsufficientwork of teachersand studentsto justifythe measures containedin RoyalDecree-Law.
The preservationof academic excellenceand the parallelsatisfactionof the principleof equalopportunitiesarenot, by contrast,explicitily stated inthe rule.
4.- Moveto the Ministryin a clear andemphatic way that "This is not the way"we will improveour university system and we reiterate once again our willingness tocollaborate in the studyof the reforms necessaryto allowthe Spanish university systemto maintainits performance comparableto that ofthe bestuniversity systemsin the world.
