After the intervention of Grisolia, authorities conducted a tour of the tent ready in the Area Volvo, accompanied by the Dean of Quality of Faculty of the University of Alicante and responsible for STAS, Luis Gras. Lecturer Gras states that more than 2,000 students from 17 primary schools and secondary schools in the province have confirmed their attendance at the opening day to participate in the many activities scheduled.
In total, STAS will develop over 180 recreational activities for 11th and 12th May, although pre-activities on scientific disseminations have already begun in different areas of Alicante that have been called "Satellite Events".
The Science Street Alicante's main objective is to show the most exciting and fun side of science, especially to educators and educational institutions, scientists, disseminators, media, business and cultural groups. Luis Gras has stated that "we turn to the general public on the one hand, but especially to primary and secondary students, aged between 12 and 16 years. We want them to lose their fear towards science and approach it in a casual, educational and funny way". Among the activities highlighted by the STAS organization, we find -apart from the participation of Santiago Grisolía- the inaugural conference on Friday 11th May, the participation of the Hombre de Negro, from the TV programme El Hormiguero at the closing ceremony on Saturday, 12th May.
The organization emphasizes the participation of the Scientific Police on 11th May with a proposed role-playing game, with which participants may find the "murderer of the STAS" and may also visit the exhibition of forensic entomology at the hands of specialists Police Científica.Otra of the highlights is the "Labyrinth of mirror neurons" which is a first of STAS. Visitors can delve into a neuron of 15 meters, thanks to the Spanish Society for Neuroscience. Different astronomical observations and discussions will also accommodate, workshops as "Materritmo" that combines mathematics, music and humor or "Mati and matiaventuras" developed especially for children to play and manipulate mathematical concepts. You can also visit a replica medieval catapult, attend lectures about the universe, magic and science, optical illusions and much more.
But STAS will not be limited to the Volvo Area. It is expected that different teachers and professionals in Science come to the SPEAKER CORNER, at the corner of the El Corte Inglés, at Federico Soto where various talks will be offered on the street throughout the day. On Friday night, researchers will participate with the cocktail of Sciences and astronomical observation.
The day will continue on 12 fun activities where attendees can learn how to make a pizza prehistoric know what the bones tell us through human paleontology, pretend to be Einstein or go to Gastrociencia. Scientists can tell in 5 minutes what they do in the Ring of Science and the day will end with the experiments of the Man in Black and the concert of The Covenant.
