Alicante, 3rd November 2011
The University of Alicante hosts the Enric Valor Symposium on 4th, 5th and 6th November 2011 to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Enric Valor y Vives, whose figure survives thanks to his decisive contributions in three key areas for the standardization of the language and literature of the Valencian peoples namely grammar, novel and serenades. Particularly noteworthy are the many contributions available to the UA Department of Catalan Studies, organizer of the meeting. The Valencian Academy of Language, the Institute of Catalan Studies, the Interuniversity Institute of Valencian Studies, the Offices of the Vice Presidents for Extracurricular Activities and for Educational Innovation and Technology, the Office for the Promotion of Catalan Language, the Education Sciences Institute (ESI) and the UA Faculties of Arts and Education.
The meeting presents a multidisciplinary approach to this author with the participation of some of the most renowned specialists in each of the aspects proposed. Thus, the event gathers together experts working on Valor's work, some of them, communicating innovative contributions which have never been disseminated before. Óscar Pérez Silvestre will talk about the process of censorship in L'ambitious d'Aleix, in “L’ambició d’Aleix i la censura: història de l’expendient 3322-59”. The Professor in the UA Catalan Studies, Enric Balaguer, will contribute his study on the importance of the Valor's work with “La novel.lística d’Enric Valor. Aitana com a espai simbòlic”. Also, the relevance of the Symposium is due to the interventions of the people who met Enric Valor in real life, such as
Joan Senent Moreno, son of the co-collaborator of Enric Valor, Joan Senent. Also, his editor, interviewer and friend, Rosa Serrano Làcer, who will participate on Saturday.
On 6th November, Sunday, the UA organizing lecturers, Vicent Brotons y Joan Borja, will perform a geographical layout by the Sierra de Castalla, Planisses, Cocentaina, Penáguila and villages of the Comtat de L’Alcoià with the "Route of Enric Valor". They will use this path, to tell serenades, since Valor placed them on specific and defined landscapes.
The Enric Valor Symposium is the finale that closes a year of events devoted to this illustrious figure from Alicante who also studied to become a qualified accountant in the former School of Commerce, from which the UA was created. He was also awarded the honoris causa doctor degree by the same institution in 1999. The venue is the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Arts at the UA.
