Cervantes Prize Jorge Edwards will speak on the "fictional truths" of the Spanish-Peruvian Nobel Prize
The Hall El Aguila (c / Ramírez de Prado, 3 - Madrid) will host today, 4th October, at 7 pm, the presentation of the Chair Vargas Llosa, an act attended by Mario Vargas Llosa (Nobel Prize in Literature 2010), J. J. Armas Marcelo (Director of the Chair) and Jorge Edwards (Chile's Ambassador to France, Cervantes Prize 1999), who will deliver the conference “Las verdades novelescas de Vargas Llosa” (Vargas Llosa's fictional truths).
An interuniversity and innovative initiative
The Chair Vargas Llosa is a joint initiative of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library Foundation with the universities of Alicante, Murcia, Valladolid, Malaga, La Rioja, Granada, Castile-La Mancha, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) and the European University of Madrid, which granted the author of The Celtic dream with an honorary doctoral degree and other relevant distinctions. The project is sponsored by Banco Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, El Corte Ingles, the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Fundación Author, Iberia and the Cervantes Institute.
Directed by the journalist and writer Juan Jesús Armas Marcelo, the Chair's Academic Counselor, it is made up by Milagros del Corral, President of the UNESCO Scientific Committee Focus 2011, Jorge Edwards, Chilean Ambassador to France and Cervantes Prize in 1999, Inger Enkvist, Swedish Hispanist scholar and expert on the work of Vargas Llosa, who has translated several books, Emiliano Martinez, President of the Santillana Foundation, Darío Villanueva, Secretary of the Royal Spanish Academy and Director of the Cervantes Foundation's Scientific Council and Federico Ysart, from the Botin Foundation.
Developed with academic rigor, innovative courage, with a clear interuniversity and interdisciplinary nature, this Vargas Llosa Chair strives to become a cultural and educational role model contributing to the study, research and dissemination of contemporary culture. Its academic programme aims at being among the most prestigious and innovative within the Spanish and Latin American university scope.
