Research group 'Applied Biochemistry'

The research group 'Applied Biochemistry' of the University of Alicante is a multidisciplinary research group composed of professors and researchers from various areas of knowledge (Biology, Marine Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics and English Philology) which aims to design and develop basic and applied lines of research comprised in one of the areas identified by the UNESCO nomenclature as 3302: Biochemical Technology.

The current lines of research in the group range from basic research processes on biochemistry and molecular biology of microorganisms, including the development and optimization of technologies for microbial fermentation and downstream processing of biomass, to the study of potential uses of cellular biomass or its biocompounds in biotechnology and medicine.

Likewise, the experience in research and process development of its members allows the group to offer a wide range of services aimed at companies, such as: advice for the drafting of R&D&I projects, evaluation of R&D&I projects for national and regional certification agencies, physico-chemical water analysis and medium- and large-scale production of microbial biomass and proteins.
