The UA Research Chair in SDGs-Peace was created in the framework of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs, approved by the United Nations in September 2015, are subdivided into five themes (people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships). All the goals are part of the UA’s corporate social responsibility policy; specifically, this Research Chair aims to support SDG 16 (“Peace, justice and strong institutions”).
This SDG primarily involves promoting peaceful, fair and inclusive societies, free from fear and violence, with a view to sustainable development; and providing access to justice and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. In this context, the UA Research Chair in SDGs-Peace is intended to encourage activities that help achieve these goals, especially those that raise awareness in the university community and society at large.
The Research Chair is funded by the Valencia Region Government’s Department of Transparency, Social Responsibility, Participation and Cooperation, as the Valencia Region Government, like the UA, is committed to advancing and promoting the 2030 Agenda in society.
