DAI Lab is the research laboratory that the DAI group is building at the University of Alicante. DAI Lab is intended for training and research in home automation and intelligent environments, paying special attention to:
the monitoring of people and analysis of its behaviour in private spaces,
ambient assisted living, i.e. technologies to support the daily lives of elderly and disabled people,
efficient use of energy.
Although in the future we will recreate a full home, as we did in metalTIC - Digital Home project; we currently have a space that recreates a living room.
The architecture of the system is structured in layers.
DAI Lab includes DAI Middleware (more information in RUA), a distributed middleware for ambient assited living and personal safey and security, which allows the exchange of structured information between different services and a universal input interface to ensure interoperability with all kinds of user-oriented interfaces. This platform integrates different home automation technologies, allows to connect all the devices in the home and a transparent access to them.
DAI Lab also incorporates DAI UIDL (more information in RUA), a new language for describing user interfaces, with a high level of abstraction and based on a text representation for the development of smart home applications. The aim of this language is to describe the functionality and services offered by home facilitating the development of applications for ambient assisted living.
In the upper layer DAI Lab includes an extensive collection of person-environment interfaces such as touch screens, mobile devices, cameras, Kinects, wiimotes, ratural language recognition, brain-computercerebro-ordenador interfaces...
With regard to applications, DAI Lab includes technologies and services for ambient assisted living, and monitoring and efficient management of energy.
