The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 17 December 1999. 25 November was chosen as the official date so as to commemorate the Mirabal sisters (Patricia, Minerva and María Teresa), three Dominican political activists who were murdered in 1960.
The UA will be joining the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women celebrations with a series of institutional, training and cultural activities you can check on this website.
This year, the UA will launch the Anti-Mistreatment Cream Campaign, based on a highly effective product designed by UA lecturer Juan Francisco Navarro Llinares to raise awareness on gender-based violence, and the university community is encouraged to take part in the activities and events scheduled.
