The lines of research work the research group are as follows:
Planning and sustainable management of destinations
This line of research that has been developed since the 1990s focuses on the analysis of tourist destinations and planning processes of development of this activity, with particular attention to the trends of renewal and qualification in coastal areas, sustainability of interventions, design of new tourist products for the renewal of the tourist areas, reception capacity of tourism in the territory, tourism development and factors related to the territorial system, strategies for the integration of tourism in the development of rural areas and valorization of the cultural and natural heritage in the tourist environment.
Strategic direction and management of tourist enterprises
It is a line of basic research on issues relating to the management and strategic tourism management, the management of human resources, competitiveness and profitability through the incorporation of new tools and management systems companies, notably the aspects relating to the assurance and certification of quality systems. Also carried out research work related to the creation of companies of complementary offer as an element of diversification of tourist destinations, as well as studies on processes of internationalization and globalization of tourism enterprises.
International mobility and residencialismo in tourist areas: factors and impacts in host societies. Social perception of the residencialismo
It is a line of research focused on the international geographic mobility related to the development of leisure and tourist practices in contemporary societies. Aspects to consider include the factors that have led to the intensification of mobility intra European as well as economic, social and cultural impacts of mobility in the areas of origin and destination. Attention is paid to international mobility forms associated with tourism and leisure, such as migration, temporary or permanent, of retired (the so-called ´lifestyle migration´), the residencialismo or tourism "visits of friends and family", as well as labour migration associated with these phenomena.
Tourism and development in international cooperation
The object of study is the role of tourism in the framework of international cooperation, as well as social, environmental and economic implications of tourism in societies in the process of development and community-based tourism. Similarly, dealt with issues related to local development, appreciation, and tourist use of the cultural and natural heritage, as well as issues related to sustainability.
