During the last two weeks, the students of the postgraduate program in Color Technology for the Automotive Sector have been able to see the latest instrumentation for the characterization of gonioapparent coatings very demanded in the automotive sector. On the other hand, companies such as AkzoNobel or Merck have been able to share their latest work or products with students. In addition, the students have carried out practical sessions that have allowed them to use specific instrumentation that will help them in their future work in this sector.
Twenty technical managers, mostly from countries in Europe and the United States, participated on October 3,2017 in the Workshop on Colour Science & Applications - Exploring Upcoming Projects organized by our research group.
This R&D&I activity was related to Color Science and Color Technology, developed prior to the international congresses "Pigment & Color Science Forum" and "TiO2 Summit" (4 and 5 October at the Palacio de Congresos in Alicante). The workshop was attended by several speakers linked to different lines of research developed at the University of Alicante with other collaborators.
Joaquín Campos, researcher at the IO- CSIC Optics Institute and representative of the European project "Bidirectional reflectance definitions" (BiRD) presented the lines of action of this European project. José Miguel Martín Martinez presented the UA spin-off based on self-repair resin. Alfonso Jiménez presented the project BARBARA, a European project aimed at the development of new biological materials from food waste with applications in the construction and automotive sectors. And finally, Francisco Miguel Martínez Verdú presented the project "MSc in Color Technology for the Automotive Sector" (ColTAS).
Throughout the workshop, there were moments of conversation and discussion about all the lines of research presented, creating a rich discussion between researchers and technical managers with the opportunity of new collaborations between universities and companies.
At the end of March, during two weeks, students of the Master's Degree in Color Technology for the Automotive Sector of the University of Alicante attended to different invited seminars and conferences, together with several demonstrative sessions in the laboratories of the Vision and Colour group in the Department of Optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy. After this phase of face-to-face training, students will complete the internship and the MSc thesis project.

Inside the Master in Technology of the Colour for the Automotive Sector (ColTAS) offered by the University of Alicante, a workshop has been organised from 20th to 31th of March for the master's students with the participation of different companies related with the sector, as well as of different researchers with recognised prestige in this scientific field. During two weeks, the students will have opportunity to know at first hand the last novelties in instrumentation for the measure of colour and/or texture of gonio-apparent materials very used in the automotive sector, as well as of the most common softwares of measurements management. Besides, researchers, both from the university and industrial field, will offer different talks where they will share with the students the last investigations on gonio-apparent materials.
In October 2016, the Master's Degree in Colour Technology for the Automotive Sector. started with 7 students from different countries. It is a postgraduate course with 60 ECTS offered by the University of Alicante. The professors involved in this course belong to the Color and Vision group (GVC) of the same university.
The postgraduate course is divided into different sub-degrees:
In this edition there are 7 students of different geographic places: Spain, Germany, India, etc.
Last October 23, our colleague Francisco Miguel Martínez Verdú presented the work "Theoretical Implementation of the Color Inconstancy Index Gonio-Apparent for Automotive Coatings" at the international congress 23rd Color Imaging Conference (CIC23) held in Darmstadt (Germany). This work was in a special section "Bright Ideas" and it had a great acceptance in the audience.
The Vision and Color group from the Department of Optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy of the University of Alicante, in collaboration with other academic institutions (UGR, UPC, UPV and CSIC) and companies (AUDI, SEAT, OPEL, BASF Coatings, PPG Ibérica, etc), is again offering the postgraduate course "Master in Color Technology for the Automotive Sector", with 60 ECTS credits for the academic year 2015-2016.

Due to the events planned for the day of the chemistry within the acts of St. Alberto Magno 2014, patron of the Sciences Faculty of the University of Alicante, Francisco Miguel gave a lecture about "Current challenges of the physics and chemistry of color". In this talk, it was discussed the achievements and challenges of the physics and chemistry of color through the previous trajectory of the research group "vision and colour", and of the approach multiscale (top-dow vs. bottom-up) for structural colors, hybrid nanostructured pigments, functional pigments and metamaterials colored, applicable also to the optimization of human resources in organizations, both universities as enterprises, to the challenges of the 21st century.

BYK-Gardner has designated as local scientific coordinator of the 2nd BYK-Gardner Iberian User Meeting to the Color & Vision Group at the University of Alicante for next 23th and 24th October at the campus of the University of Alicante.

The Vision and Colour Group of the Department of Optics, Pharmacology and Anatomy at the University of Alicante, in collaboration with other academic institutions (UGR, UPC, UPV and CSIC) and different companies (AUDI, SEAT, BASF Coatings, BYK-Gardner, OPEL, PPG, etc), is offering the Master’s Degree in Colour Technology for the Automotive Sector postgraduate course with 60 ECTS credits for the academic year 2014-2015. In this edition, it is offered for undergraduate students (with less than 18 ECTS for finishing her/his graduate) and/or professionals without University degree, in this way, the ColTAS Master enables to obtain two sub-degrees (Expert = 20 ECTS Specialist = 30 ECTS) before obtaining the final MSc degree, even in different academic years.

The workshop of the Spanish Network of Colour Science and Technology will be held at the University of Alicante on 22 and 23 March 2012, organized by the vision and colour group.
The main idea of this workshop is to offer an opportunity for the young researchers to show their work, therefore, PhD students from different Spanish research groups will show their works. Furthermore, an international expert in this field is invited to share his knowledge. In this edition, Dr. Sophie Wuerger from the University of Liverpool will talk about her work focused on understanding how the brain processes visual information, mainly colour vision.

A group of researchers from the University of Alicante, which is developing a global Census of dyes with properties of empowerment and strengthening of color and their duration in time, has concluded that despite the antiquity of the natural and increasing competition from synthetic, the first still face "new opportunities" in the 21st century.
The University of Alicante believes that before the natural dyes used historically open new opportunities in 21st century, despite the overwhelming competition from synthetic origin. With this aim is preparing a global Census of dyes with certain properties of reinforcement, participating in the momentum that UNESCO is giving to the production of dyes of natural origin as an economic resource for emerging or poor countries.
The Foundation Scientific Park of Alicante of the Comunitdad Valenciana together with the University of Alicante, through the Office of Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation has awarded the prize "Business Idea" to the GVC in "PROGRAMA IMPULSO: I CONVOCATORIA DE PREMIOS A IDEAS Y PROYECTOS DE EMPRESAS DE BASE TECNOLÓGICA” with the project "Na2Colour".
